I sat on the plane humming quietly to myself. Ironically my phone was playing all this Chris Brown music. I’d called Cara before I got on the plane to tell her when to pick me up and take me to Nicole’s house. I would have loved to hang out and go see Larry the first day in town but I knew I was gonna be too tired. Plus, Larry and Laurent were FOREVER HYPER. Not once in the 4 months of knowing them had I ever really seen them tired. When they fell asleep it was always awkward because they’d be wide awake and then all of a sudden, they’re in a corner somewhere conked out sleeping on each other. I was on the second plane I had to catch that took me from Dallas, Texas straight to LAX. It was I think a 2 or 3 hour flight so I couldn’t sleep anymore. The butterflies were building up slowly but surely. I was in maybe the last 30 minutes of the flight and all that was running rampant in my mind was I’ll be home.
“CHEYENNE?!” Cara was standing in front of me.
“AHHHHHH!” I ran and jumped on her. Even though she was only 5’6 and I stood at 5’9 I was able to wrap my legs around her waist and hold on for dear life. “I missed you!” My tears were hot and running rapidly down my cheeks as my voice was muffled in the long embrace we shared.
“I missed you too Mimi.” It was a nickname she gave me for my middle name. “Ah, are you sure you can’t just hangout for at least an hour before I take you to Nicole’s?” She grabbed up my bags and walked with me to the exit towards parking.
“I don’t know. I’m so hype now I kinda wanna go and be back to normal somewhat.” I stretched wildly as we stood in front of her small Kia Forte. “What is Jamie doing? Is he still in class now?” I was referring to my ex turned best guy friend turned self-proclaimed owner of my heart.
“Yeah, but we can always go kidnap him. I’m sure he wouldn’t mind. Nicole told me not to tell him you were coming.” Cara brushed at her wavy blonde hair, pushing it back out of her face. Jaime was Nicole’s little brother and the 4 of us were always tight growing up. If you saw me anywhere chances were Cara and Nicole were by my side if not including Jamie as well. “She ALSO told me about some twin that’s out here now too.” She smirked at me as she helped me load the bags in the trunk. “What’s that about?”
I sighed and a big smile snuck onto my face. One I couldn’t help but show because I was finally going to be able to see him again.
“Oh god is he that cute?!” Cara exclaimed handing me the keys to the car, I slid into the driver’s side.
“Honestly, yes. Larry’s amazing. When Nicole gets here Thursday we’re all going to dinner and a movie together, me, you Jamie, Laurent, Larry, and Nicole. Yup, that’s how it’s gonna go down.” I turned up the radio, and a familiar voice rang through the speakers.
Turn up the music, cause this song just came on. Turn up the music, if they try to turn us down. Turn up the music, can I hear it til the speakers blow … If you sexy and you know it put your hands up in the air. Put your hands up in the air, girl, put your hands up.
My excitement was no longer containable. I rolled the windows down in the car and turned the music up all the way, allowing the bass to boom and shake my chest, cruising down the congested freeway of LA, singing loudly along with Cara. I hated it while I lived here but right now I was living for it. Right now I was carefree, on cloud nine, high off life, enjoying the things I missed so much.
“JAIME!” I was creeping in the window of Jaime’s classroom. “JAMIE!” I whispered loudly. He glanced up and did a double take. Quickly he packed up his things and told the teacher it was an emergency and that he had to go. He was only in study hall so what was she going to say? I met him with a long hug, “Jamie, Jesus I missed you. Come on, we’re hanging out.” Jamie was a 6’1, Black and French, football playing, sweetheart. His cream colored complexion and strong arms were wrapped tight around my shoulders. “Bro, let me go! I can’t breathe anymore.” I wheezed.
“I’m sorry, I’m sorry. I just can’t believe you’re home.” He stepped back still in awe I was standing before him. Before I could ready myself he had pulled me into another hug, this time Cara joining in. “When did you get in town?”
“Uh, 30 minutes ago.” My phone rang loudly in the halls of the school. Larry’s sleeping face appeared and my face ran hot. I picked up stepping away from Cara and Jamie. “Hey you.” I tried to disguise the smile in my voice.
“You here I assume.” Larry wasn’t dumb at all; I remembered he told me to call him when I touched down. But in all my excitement, I’d forgotten about him and Laurent just that quickly. “I want to see you tonight. Meet me at the hotel.”
“But, I wanted to get some rest in before I started visiting everyone.” I bargained.
“It will not be that long; I just want to see your face. I miss you. I want to feel you. Please?” The way Larry’s voice hit my ears made my knees tremble. “If all I get is a hug today Chey, I will be happy.”
“Okay, what time?” I asked giving in.
“Around 6 before we go to rehearsal. This is one of the bigger ones.” He appeared to have brightened up instantly.
“5:30 good enough?” I looked up at Cara who was observing me with a devious smirk.
“Perfect. I’ll be waiting for you.” Larry made a kissy noise on his end making me giggle and return the act of our affection.
We hung up the phone after a mutual goodbye and I walked back over to my friends. I already knew what they were thinking. Cara cleared her throat and Jamie just adjusted his backpack strap on his shoulder and walked with us out the exit and back again to the car. “Guys, can you stop with the looks?” I was feeling nervous.
“Tell me about him and I won’t need to.” Cara laughed out loud and slapped her knee.
“Mkay, His name is Larry, he’s 6’4, has a twin, he dances, and I like him … a lot.” I was trying to keep it simple for them but it wasn’t enough. Cara was continuing to probe me and Jaime was joining right along with her. Had it not been them, I would have been cursing someone out but I was secretly enjoying that they cared enough to want to know every single living detail about the man.
